What Is Respect?

WALT: To make a quality blog post for an online audience

Respect is something we use everyday. Respect is showing manners in a dignified sort of way. Respect is in a conversation showing that your engaged in the conversation by making eye contact and facing your whole body to them instead of facing your back to the speaker. And as for language when someone is doing something annoying or irritating you don't have to yell at them, even at times this can be really hard but you still have to show determination and perseverance to talk to them politely and tell them to stop. You should show respect to everyone everywhere you go, like in a classroom environment you would show respect to your peers and your teachers and even at home you should be showing respect to your parents or who you live with and your siblings (If you have some). Respect is something that will probably help you in life, as if you be disrespectful to everyone then probably they'll be disrespectful back, but if you try to be respectful to everyone then they will probably repay it back to you.

  1. Tēnā koe Arie. You have written a quality paragraph about what respect is, ka pai. I wonder if respect may look differently depending on the people and the environment. What kind of environments are you usually in (e.g. sports, library)? What does respect look like when you're in these different places? Have you ever been in a position where you couldn't remain respectful, or where you had to try really hard to continue to be respectful to someone else?

  2. Hi Miss Fleet, I do think that respect will look differently in other environments, and the people who are in it. I am usually in the hall playing badminton and also playing outside with my dog. At the hall respect looks like playing fairly and showing sportsmanship e.g when you loose you don't start yelling at the other players or the score person. Or if my dog gets hyperactive and start's to jump on me you don't need to start hitting him and yelling as it's also cruel for the dog. And I have been in multiple situations where my sisters have done something irritating like make a big mess in my room or take something without permission and lose it and it's really hard to stay calm and continue to be respectful.
